What the notification permits
Under the ARO rally notifications for the 2027 intake, a candidate may select two Agniveer categories at the point of application.

Where a candidate has done so, the same notifications provide that they answer one hundred questions in two hours, rather than the fifty questions in one hour that a single-category candidate answers.
What that actually is, and what it is not
It is two separate Common Entrance Examinations, sat in one sitting. It is not a longer paper, and it is not one paper covering two categories.
That distinction carries a real consequence. The categories have different section structures, so a candidate selecting two is sitting two differently shaped papers back to back.
Under the published syllabus documents for the current cycle the shapes differ substantially. Take a candidate who selects General Duty and Technical. One paper carries General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. The other carries a combined General Knowledge and Reasoning section, plus Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. And a candidate who selects Clerk / Store Keeper Technical sits a paper where General English is twenty-five of fifty questions.
The eligibility constraint comes first
A candidate may only select categories they are eligible for, and the education requirements differ sharply between them.
Under the Army's published eligibility criteria for the current cycle, General Duty needs Class 10 at forty-five per cent in aggregate. Technical needs 10+2 in Science with named subjects, at fifty per cent in aggregate and forty per cent in each. Clerk / Store Keeper Technical needs 10+2 in any stream at sixty per cent in aggregate.
So for many candidates the question does not arise, because only one category is open to them. Check your eligibility for both before treating this as an option.
The honest accounting
We can set out what the provision costs and what it offers. We cannot tell you whether it is worth it for you, and any material that does is telling you about a candidate it has never met.
What it offers — two applications instead of one, in a single sitting, against two sets of vacancies.
What it costs, and this is the part that gets skipped — the figures below are from the ARO rally notifications for the 2027 intake.
- Preparation is not shared — two different section structures mean two different syllabuses to cover. A candidate with limited preparation time is dividing it, not doubling it.
- Two hours is a longer sitting than one, and concentration across the back half of a two-hour computer-based paper is its own skill.
- A second category prepared thinly is a second paper attempted thinly — there is no partial credit for having applied.
The judgement, put plainly: two categories helps a candidate whose eligibility genuinely spans both and whose preparation overlaps substantially. It costs a candidate who is adding a second category as insurance and dividing a fixed amount of study across two syllabuses.
Where the categories overlap, and where they do not
This is the useful analysis, and it comes straight from the published section lists for the current cycle.
- General Duty, Tradesmen and Women Military Police share a shape — General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning. A candidate eligible for two of these has substantial overlap.
- Technical shares Mathematics with them and then diverges into Physics and Chemistry.
- Clerk / Store Keeper Technical shares the least. It adds Computer Science and weights English at half the paper, and it also carries a typing test during the online examination.
If your two categories sit in the first group, the overlap is real. If one of them is Clerk / Store Keeper Technical, treat it as a genuinely separate preparation.
Practical points
- The selection is made at application, under the notification's own procedure. It is not a decision available on exam day.
- The typing test for Clerk / Store Keeper Technical happens during the online CEE under the notifications for the current cycle, at thirty words per minute in English, described there as desirable. Only those who qualify proceed. Factor that in if Clerk is one of your two.
- Vacancies are per ARO and per category — A second category with no vacancy in your ARO this cycle adds nothing.
What to do
- Check your eligibility for both categories against your own ARO's notification, before anything else.
- Compare the two section lists side by side and count the genuine overlap.
- Be honest about your available study time — two thin preparations are worse than one solid one.
- Read the clause in your own notification, because the provision, the duration and the procedure are all set there.
